Fishing's Future Mission

Reintroduce and reconnect kids to nature, strengthen the family unit, increase awareness for the protection, conservation and restoration of this nation's aquatic natural resources and increase participation in recreational angling.

Shane Wilson has spent the last twenty years in public education working with at-risk populations and their families. Wilson recognized the need for stronger parental involvement, and over the years, an ever-increasing need for kids to simply get outside and play.

Through a sport he’s passionate about, fishing, Wilson realized an opportunity to address these issues by founding Fishing’s Future, a 501-C3 corporation intended to educate youth and their families about the natural environment and the sport of fishing in a way that provides a positive outdoor experience.

Wilson has been fishing with both conventional and fly fishing gear for nearly 45 years. He has received numerous environmental and state awards for his dedication to the youth and for his environmental stewardship. Wilson holds an IGFA Fly Fishing World Record, has two Guinness World Records, has produced and patented products for the fishing industry, is listed in Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame and currently serves his community through numerous boards and committees. Originally from Indiana, Wilson has fished in every state, excluding Hawaii, and most of the Canadian provinces.

He moved to Texas over a decade ago and quickly established his reputation in the saltwater environment. He has appeared on television, in magazines and on radio and talk shows. He is married to Stephanie and they share their home on South Padre Island with two semi-friendly dogs.
